Kitechild Notches Success with Member Tashirat!

Posted on by Kitechild

It has been just over a year since Kitechild first launched its website. Our mission is to provide visibility and promote support by creating the first-ever online network for orphanages and children’s homes in the world. It seems like an eternity ago, as the organization is now firing on all cylinders, bringing in new members to its database every day, while also finding ways to contribute and improve upon the conditions of the orphanages that are already present.

None represent the success of Kitechild’s mission as much as Tashirat, a small orphanage in Tepoztlan, Mexico. An orphanage that takes in the more marginalized of orphaned children, from those who are handicapped to others who are too old to adopt, it focuses on providing a smaller-scale care program, wherein these children live in separate homes with one to two “parents” who lovingly raise them. Children are raised in an environment that encourages them to flourish as individuals, to find their unique talents and follow their passion. These children are given a new beginning, something they always dreamed of but never thought was possible, a family.

For Tashirat, much of their needs as an orphanage revolve around providing schoolbooks and school supplies for their children, in addition to more basic needs like uniforms and shoes. Upon identifying the needs for the upwards of 30 children in the orphanage, Kitechild was able to provide help. With a donation of $840, much of which was raised at Kitechild’s launch in December 2010, Tashirat was able to purchase all-in one subject books that cover children’s learning for the entire school year. These books will provide the necessary access to a more comprehensive overview of the topics that they will cover throughout the year, as well as, improve children’s ability to develop critical thinking and study skills. In addition to new schoolbooks, Kitechild was also able to provide much needed school supplies for 30 children. These include new notebooks, pencils, dictionaries and calculators. When informed of the positive reception that people had of Tashirat at the Kitechild launch, home administrators had this to say; “Thank you so very much for your fundraising efforts. Please extend our deepest thanks to everyone who was involved, we are so grateful for your help!” The contribution made by Kitechild serves to relieve part of the financial burden of providing children with the opportunity for education that would otherwise not be fulfilled.

About Kitechild

Kitechild, is a not-for-profit organization, was launched December of 2010 by two UCLA college graduates. The founders envisioned using the power of the internet in the age of social media, to provide a unified solution to many of the challenges orphanages face in providing resources and opportunities to orphans in the developing world. • #TBT! Check out this video from our first little fundraiser we did back in 2010! We all have to start somewhere, and this is a great example of the ways YOU can be a Kitechild ambassador - hosting small get togethers in the community, donating a birthday, etc. are all great ideas! To get started, email ambassador@kitechild.org; we’d love to collaborate on some great ways to get involved and give back!
